Whilst a lot of supermarkets have a fresh fish stand, they are often poorly stocked with local catch and use loose definitions of the term ‘fresh’, with much of the seafood on display having travelled on the supply chain for a number of days. But supermarket retailers have a high footfall, which gives them the ability to sell large volumes of fish to customers, which makes it cheaper.
