There’s something about a business being run by a close network of family and friends that just makes the food taste ten times better. Although, at Dan Dan the Lobster Man the food is already difficult to improve upon!
You would struggle to find an operation with a fresher stock of delicious Cornish seafood at its disposal. The small-but-mighty alfresco dining shack on the Porthleven harbourside is usually bustling with visitors over the summer months. All it takes is a bit of sunshine and some smoke from the BBQ and the crowds flock!
From lobster tails doused in garlic and parsley butter, to colourful crab tacos and mackerel baps, their grill rarely has a break over the summer. Other menu highlights include lemon and garlic anchovies (marinated in-shack, of course), and homemade fresh Cornish mackerel Pâté.
Visitors can dine alfresco, with a drink (soft, or alcoholic – as it’s fully licensed) in hand, and watch as the fishing boats bob through the gaps and out to sea. All of the shellfish served at Dan Dan the Lobster Man is caught by the owner, Dan himself, who lands and prepares his catch directly behind the seafood container on the harbour. He then takes some of the produce home to cook, and brings it back to the restaurant later that day.
Ultimately, it’s incredibly fresh and delicious seafood with a view out to sea – what more could you want?
