A hole in the cylinder

Posted by in David Stevens Blog

Paul our engineer is down today looks like the cylinder has a hole in it which is allowing water to drop down into the sump we done the right thing coming in would have damaged the engine if we carried on. The only good way to look at it is no damage done and we were due to lay up end of this trip to go up to the slip in Polruan for our annual refit, so at least it happened the right side of the refit, but still would of rather got the trip in such is life.

I know i seem to go on about the fuel alot but it is getting serious now it rose 8p a lire this week that is a 15% rise in a week, many of my colleegs in the beam trawler fleet are tied up unable to make it pay and we have no idea where the fuel price will be in another mounth or two but it is sure to rise further even ourselve

Posted by in David Stevens Blog

Alec called this morning he is 20miles south lizzard point, Damo our crewman cut his arm badly with his gutting knife so Alec is on the way in to get Damo to hospital. They get in just after dinner, the inshore lifeboat picks Damo off our stern and takes him to the quay ateps where the mission man takes him to casualty, i get the grub and my dad has orderd fuel and a lorry to land the vessel. It is now 1900hrs Damo has had 5stitches but other than that he's in good spirits, we sail again with myself and dad going back to sea this time with Alec and Janis this jobs always throws up surprises.
